In class today we learned about the tragedy of the commons. (Picture on your right is a man standing a mountain of buffalo bones, "I think its just skulls.") Think about the world you inhabit today, what is one commonly owned resource that is abused? Please be specific with your answers. Don't just say the environment is a tragedy of the commons because people pollute. What part of the environment? Why is it abused? Why are people polluting this area? Remember it doesn't have to be something natural (animals, trees etc.) Good luck, remember to respond to one of your peers post.
I think bathrooms in public parks because they are not sanitized or properly taken care of, those in public parks are taken for granted. Now the difference in a restaurant bathroom is substantially different.

DeleteOne resource that is commonly abused is the air we breathe. This is abused due to the lack of ownership assigned to the air. We pollute it with exhaust from our cars, cause pollution through excessive noise and toxins released via several sources such as factories, refineries and power plants.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Factories pour tons of pollution into the air everyday. That's terrible because in the long run it makes people sick and they can get cancer and die.
DeleteI think we abuse the water we drink. Think of how often you can't see in the water. We drop trash into it and pour toxic substances in it. We also often use more water than is necessary. People who own bodies of water take such good care of it. Maybe more people should own water.

ReplyDeleteNo one exactly own these books, library do own books but its open for public. Everyone go and borrow the book. Although they are in charge of protecting the goods they borrowed, books still not in as good as new condition. The book is belong to them in a short term not whole lifetime so they may not care about they book and the subsequent people who need that book to read.
Yeah, I agree. Some people dont take care of things that dont belong to them.
DeleteI think public parks are a resource that is abused by many people. They make them for us to enjoy and for children to play, but people litter and put graffiti everywhere. People see thats they dont personally own it, so they dont take care of it.

DeleteOne commonly abused resource is the land that we live on. People frequently litter and the litter spreads and blows in the wind. The garbage thrown negatively effects the land, but also the animals living on land as well, Killing off tons of wildlife. People don't think of the consequences when they can't find a garbage can for their trash, or they just don't care.

DeleteOne commonly abused resource is trees. We need trees for many different things in our society. Unfortunately people take advantage of its uses. Things that are made from trees are important but not all things. We need trees for oxygen but many people cut them down for bad reasons. Such as building where the trees were. Cutting down an entire forest for unnecessary things is abuse in my eyes.
ReplyDeletei think that water is a commonly abused resource. think about the world is covered in 70% water and only 3% of that is fresh water. When you brush your teeth you probably leave the water running as you brush, I know I do. when we use water to make our yards green.
ReplyDeletei think electricity is something we overuse. now everyone uses electricity for cars,tv,phones etc. and i think we abuse it to much leaving things plugged in not turning off lights when not needed.

DeleteA commonly abused good to me is air. No one owns the air and therefore no one can control the use of it down to not letting it be abused without serious consequence minus factories and such. But even then pollution is pouring into our atmosphere at an astounding rate. We have committees and groups trying to reduce carbon emissions but since no one owns the air, only so much can be done
ReplyDeleteI think oil is abused because there is a limited supply and yet we have cars with v8 and v6 engines or turbo charged engines that cause us to use more then we should. sometimes people take multiple cars to one place when all they really need is one car and it would save gas.
