Where do you get your clothes from?? (Night Class)

Watch this video on workers in Bangladesh.
Now that you have experienced (granted that it is limited) both sides of the outsourcing argument where do you stand?  Create a response that harnesses what you have learned about specialization and trade.  Is this just our reality or can business practices be changed to benefit everyone??  Give examples to support your arguments and reply to another person's comment.

Quick in-class post (Night Class)

What is your interpretation of this quote made by Claude Frederic Bastiat, “When goods cannot cross boundaries armies surely will?”

CLAUDE FREDERIC BASTIAT was a French economist, legislator, and writer who championed private property, free markets, and limited government.

How do you plan to specialize? (Night Class)

Please tell the class how you plan to specialize yourself within the U.S. economy.  What training will you need, where will you find this training and how much will this training cost? What services or skills will you be trading with others? Remember to comment on the post of your peers.

Making an exchange who wins? (Night Class)

Step #1 Imagine that you pull up to a gas station and put $25 worth of gas in the tank.  After you are done pumping the gas you go inside the gas station and pay the owner $25.  At this point you traded $25 for X amount of gas (depends on price per gallon).  Who gained from this situation and lost in this situation.  State your opinion and respond to at least one of your peers post!

Step #2.  Also watch this 2 minute video and guess what the highest price for gasoline will be in 2014!

Introductions (Night Class)

Your first assignment is a simple one!  Introduce yourself to the class.  If you have already made an introduction from a previous post add current updates to what is happening in your life and copy it onto this blog posting.  I'm excited to meet some new people! Here is an example of a past students post.

Hi, my name is Anonymous. I am 20 years old, about to turn 21 on March 19th. I have gone to many schools including Apple Valley High School, Lakeville South High School, Apple Valley ALC, DCALS and now, Rahncliff. I am 4 and half credits from my diploma. I should have my diploma by the end of this session and I am SO EXCITED. I’m looking forward to furthering my education. I’m planning on going to school for nursing. I hope to work as a psych nurse in a hospital, but I would also enjoy moving around and working in plenty of different areas as well. I currently work at Verizon Wireless in Shakopee and I have worked there for just under a year. I don’t hate it, but sales is DEFINITELY not where I plan on staying.

Final Post! (Night Class)

Congratulations on completing the course I had a great time working will all of you.  I just have one more question.   Did utilizing a blog in this class benefit you in anyway?  For example did doing this exercise make you closer with any of your peers, did it help you be more prepared for class or did it expose you to new information.  Please be as specific as possible, don’t be afraid to look back at old post for ideas.  If participating in this class blog did not benefit you please (which is ok I like honesty) be specific with your reasons.  Thanks again for participating in this activity I feel like it enriched our class.

Identify one abused common good in society (Night Class)

In class today we learned about the tragedy of the commons.  (Picture on your right is a man standing a mountain of buffalo bones, "I think its just skulls.") Think about the world you inhabit today, what is one commonly owned resource that is abused?  Please be specific with your answers.   Don't just say the environment is a tragedy of the commons because people pollute.  What part of the environment? Why is it abused? Why are people polluting this area? Remember it doesn't have to be something natural (animals, trees etc.)  Good luck, remember to respond to one of your peers post.
