Econ A (Night Class) Introductions!

Welcome to Economics! My name is Chris Riha I will be your teacher for this class.  This is my third year teaching at Rahncliff Learning Center.  When at work I am teaching ESL and High School Social Studies courses.  I received my teaching degree from the University of St. Cloud State (Go Huskies!) and am currently taking Masters courses at the University of Mankato.  When I'm not teaching I like to be active playing intramural sports like basketball and softball.  I also love to explore the outdoors.  Fishing, camping or hiking are ways I spend my time outdoors.  Traveling has always been a passion of mine also.  I have been to New Zealand, Fiji, Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia and Laos.  I was lucky enough to live in Bangkok for a year and worked at a high school teaching English.  I am excited to work with all of you and can't wait to get to know you better!

  4. Hi, My name is Austin Fehler. I like to fish, hunt, and hang out with y buddies at Bon fires. In my free time I like to work/tinker around with my truck. I take a lot of pride in my truck. I have one brother named Corey, and one sister named Jozee. My mom and dad got a divorce when I was in fourth grade and I live with my mom. I come from a family of off road vehicles on both sides of my family. I go to Rosemount High school as a junior and I’m 16, I turn 17 May 10th. My favorite class that I take in school is vehicle services. I’m nice and my friends say I’m funny. My Favorite food is BBQ ribs, and my thing I look forward to every year is the Minnesota MUD Fest. In my future I plan to be either a professional welder, auto mechanic and eventually a professional monster truck driver in monster jam. If you ever see my truck you may ask why there are so many antennas, my friends say as a joke, I'm trying to contact Jesus.

  5. Hey, my name is Skylar Wirtanen I was born and raised in Minnesota, my birthday is June 22, 1996. I lived in Apple Valley the first two years of my life. I then moved to Rosemount and have lived here since. I attended Diamond Path and Red Pine Elementary, Rosemount Middle school, Rosemount high school and SES (School of environmental studies). I have tried every sport possible but nothing stuck, until i started dancing, sophomore year of high school I joined the Irishettes and danced with them for a year. I hurt my back three different ways while dancing so I was forced to stop. I miss it terribly. I love watching hockey, my favorite team is the Minnesota Wild of course. I am not very good at playing hockey but I do skate on the pond in my backyard from time to time. I have a dog named Jewel (11yrs) and a cat named Acadia (7mo). I also have a brother, his name is Erich, he is 21 and goes to the University of Iowa. I will be attending Winona State University next year, which I am very excited about. I plan to major in criminal justice and minor in psychology. I love hanging out with my friends, most of the time we go out to eat and just talk for hours. I'm pretty excited to see what is to come next in my life and I hope its amazing.

    1. At least you've tried a ton of different sports instead of just deciding you didn't want to do them. I had to quit cheerleading and gymnastics because of my back, so I totally get that! It's awful. What made you decide to go to Winona? I'm minoring in psych too :) What are your favorite places to go eat? It's great how optimistic you are about your life!

  6. Hey I’m Savannah. Im 18 years old and I currently live in south Lakeville. I just recently moved back to Minnesota from California July of 2013. (feels good to be back in Rosemount!!)I was in California for my sophomore and Junior year and at Rosemount high school here in Minnesota for my freshman and senior year. I moved out of my Aunt and Uncles in California and I moved in with my boyfriend. I have pretty much every responsibility of an adult, which I don’t mind because it teaches you a lot and i HATE having things handed to me. I am in this program because I graduate March 14 from Rosemount High School and this is the only credit I need., so I can work a full time job and a part time job at night to help pay for college and other responsibilities. I like cooking, traveling, driving, and hanging out with my friends. I'm pretty sure i spend more time hanging out with my friends then i am at my house. (-: My birthday is August 25, and ill be 19 (:. I am going to Inver Hills Community College to obtain my Associates or Bachelors Degree in Social work, and then specialize in Child Protective Services.

    1. I think that it is so cool that you lived in California for two years, I've always wanted to live there. My plan after my 4 years at Winona State University is to go to Grad school somewhere in California. I love that you like to fight for what you want instead of letting it get handed to you. I am also graduating from Rosemount once Tri 2 ends, I like traveling and driving as well.

  8. Hi, name is Connie. I've lived in Shakopee for a little over a year. I live with my dad now but I used to lived with my mom in Lindstrom. I have two step sisters, two half brothers, and one real brother. Family is super important to me, especially my younger siblings. They mean EVERYTHING to me. My mom is really supportive of everything I do, and she's the reason I am who I am today; honest, independent, strong. She taught me to basically do whatever makes me happy, and not care what people think... and that's definitely how I live. My friends are also a huge part of my life, I honestly wouldn't be where I am today without them. I'm in this course because a lot of bad things happened to me last year, and I was out of school for a majority of the year. So here I am, making up my credits. On March 3rd, I will be one year sober and I guess you could say I'm pretty proud. There's two things I think are pretty important to know about me; First of all, I'm really sarcastic. If I sound mean, I promise I don't mean it. And Secondly, I do NOT lie. Ever.

  11. YO! My name is michael Gibbons, but hardly anyone calls me michael, or anything of the sort. I go by Gibby. It's a name almost as weird as me. I'm 18 years old and enjoy Bowling(yes like throwing all ball at pins), going to metal concerts(or as the kids call it nowa days "screamo"), hanging out with my friends, playing Magic the Gathering(the card game), and getting into fiery debates. I hate poeple who stereotype(because I'm the one they're stereotyping). I'm also one of the biggest nerds i know, and I'm proud of it. After high school I intend to take a gap year and gather money for college and then go to normandale to get my generals out of the way so i can move on to moorehead to major in japanese and minor in business. I have one older brother but he's 27, and he moved out when he was 18 so i've practically been an only child all my life.

  15. Greetings, I'm Adam. I recently turned 18 years old and I am a senior at Rosemount High School. I live with my parents and three younger brothers, Ethan, 16, Jason, 14, and David, 12. We also have two small puppies, Leo & Louie. At school, I'm involved in DECA, a business like program, intramural basketball, and I take many business classes as I am interested in marketing and accounting. Currently, I am unemployed, but the job search never ends. I used to work at Best Buy in Apple Valley for a year and Cub Foods in Rosemount for a few months. I had to quit to focus on my school work more. Outside of school, I like hanging out with my friends. In the winter, we snowboard and play hockey at open rinks around our homes. When the weather is nicer, we get outside as much as possible. From playing hoops on each others sports courts to participating in night games with the younger kids on the block, we do it all. I am an outgoing person and I've been described as "happy-go-lucky" by my parents, friends, and teachers.

  16. Hello, my name is Gabe. I'm Filipino. I speak English, Filipino, and I've been taking French for 6 years. I like listening to music of all genres. I could be listening to Nirvana one minute and Chopin in another. I also like art. I suppose I'm good at drawing and painting. My favorite artists are Dali and Van Gogh. I also enjoy the sport of boxing. I like both boxing and watching it. The history of the sport is so deep, which is incredible. I also play guitar and bass. I used to play violin. I also occasionally read for pleasure, my favorite authors being Oscar Wilde and Ernest Hemingway. I do enjoy the Harry Potter series too. I waste a lot of time on netflix and reddit. My favorite shows are Doctor Who and How I Met Your Mother. In terms of future goals, I’m probably going to UMD to pursue a career in medicine. That’s all I can really think of right now.

  17. Hello, my name is Mati Hanish. I am 17 years old and I was born in Brookings, SD. I currently live in Shakopee, but I attend the School of Environmental Studies. I am taking classes at Rahncliff because I am a junior who is planning to graduate this June. I have been accepted to the University of Texas for this fall and I plan to do my undergraduate for Marine Biology and then go to Veterinary school afterward. I am very passionate about animals and I have 2 of my own. I have a 1.5 year old puggle (pug/beagle) named Avery and a 1 year old Chinese Water Dragon named Rosco. I also volunteer at a place called Furever Wild where I work with hands on with Minnesota animals like cougars and wolves. Another interest of mine is photography. I actually have my own little business doing senior pictures, family pictures and weddings. I also love to paint, though I usually cannot find enough time to do so! My absolute favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. I have an older brother, Brent, who goes to school in Dallas, Texas and I have two younger sisters Macie (13) and Evelyn (9). As a family we enjoy boating, camping, and road trips. The last thing you should know is I absolutely, without a doubt hate winter. It is the worst thing, needless to say that is why I am escaping to Texas in the fall! Looking forward to have class with you this term and next!
