Construction worker
Male/Female model
Waiter/Waitress
Police officer
Listed above are four occupations found in our society. Your job is to list in descending order,
which occupation should be paid the most and which should be paid the
least. Don’t go looking up the salaries
of these professions and try to put them in the correct order that is not what
I am looking for. This response should
be based on your opinion of what occupation you feel is the most important. After you have ranked the occupations give an
explanation on how you came to your decision. Remember you must make one
comment on someone else’s post to receive credit. Post will be due on Monday March 3rd. Here’s an example.
1.
Police
2.
Food servers (waiter/waitress)
3.
Male/Female Model
4.
Construction worker
Police keep everyone else safe and risk their own safety in
the process. Police should be
compensated substantially for the risk they are taking with their lives. If there were no police everyone else would
just do what they want and life would not be fair. I hate cooking so I need people to prepare
food for me. Food servers bring me food,
which is the essence of existence! Plus,
I need to have energy in Chris’s economics class! Models are important
because……………………you get the point!
To me, I believe that construction workers should get paid more. Without them we wont have homes or safe roads to drive on. Models are pointless in my opinion. Police are good but they seem to get in the way, they rather go after the speeders and people with lifted/loud vehicles, rather than all the underage drinkers and smokers and drug abusers. Construction workers to me are the way to go.

Waitress

I picked Police Officer first because they are constantly putting their lives on the line for their communities. I feel that they should be earning more money for risking their lives, they have families they would be living with out them if something did go terribly wrong. Then i think construction workers are next because they are the ones building the houses that we live in, that keep us safe, and warm. So they should get more money so that they don't take their job as a joke and mess anything up when building our homes. I then picked Waitress, they are working pretty hard dealing with rude customers from time to time or even everyday. I picked models last because all they are doing is posing for pictures and walking on catwalks with brand new clothes on.
I agree with your list. But it sucks cause I know that the models get payed the most out of the four.
DeleteDon't the models have to work hard to get to be on the catwalk? Do you not wear some kind of brand clothing that was not modeled at one point???? Maybe not as useless after all...........
DeleteI think that models are pretty pointless chris...
DeleteI agree with you police risk their lives to protect and safe people.

I picked this order because police Can actually put their life on the line. When they pull someone over they have the risk of assault. Next is construction workers because they also have chance of falling off of the building that the are working on if they don't take the proper precautions. Next is waiter/waitress because like everyone else. I like to eat, but don't always have time to cook. Last is the models. I believe they should be payed the least because all they do is stand around and dress up.
I had the same exact order, so I completely agree with you, especially with the police getting paid the most.

I put these professions in this particular order with their importance to society in mind. Without a police force to enforce rules, a society can descend into anarchy. Construction workers are an integral part of society because they build everything from houses to schools to hospitals. These two careers also have the most risk involved of the four, which is something they should be compensated for. Waitresses should be paid more than models simply because they do more work. Ultimately, it comes down to the work.
Who worked harder? A model experiencing success on the catwalk or the waitress at your local restaurant??????
Deletewhy does everyone think that cops should get paid the most????
DeleteMany people can do a police officers job. Not to be insulting.. but look how many police officers there are. Hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of police officers in the country. The number of police officers crushes the number of models in the country. Take a pro athlete for example. They get paid millions because there are only a few people that can do what they do. Models should get paid more because few people can do their job.
DeleteI think we should look at how those careers contribute to society. Models don't impact your life on a daily basis. What if you get mugged? Could a model do something about that? Could a model build a house? They don't contribute anything.

I want to work and live in a place that was safely build I don't want any corners cut when it comes to construction. the people that serve us food should also be compensated well because I don't the movie "waiting" to actually become an actual thing. cops should be paid fairy they think they have a lot of power and control so if we were to pay them less maybe things would be different. and I could care less about what a model makes
Please repost your response in the daytime Econ Class! This is the night class blog!

I believe models should earn the most amount of money because their profession is the hardest to get into for a living. Compare the amount of police officers there are to models. I don't know the exact numbers, but I can assure you that there are many, many more policemen and women then there are models. One could argue police officers and construction workers require more physical labor and they put their life on the line whereas a model walks down a runway and that's all they do so the officer should get more money. Models are scarce; police are not. Many of us in this classroom could become police officers one day. Few, if any, could become models.
Interesting take! We might revisit this comment in class.
DeleteI understand your points and do not fully disagree, but the question I have is what do models contribute to us as citizens that they should be so highly paid for?
DeletePolice, construction, waiter, and model. The police is the most important because they risk their lives to keep others safe. Construction is second because they work hard to provide us with housing, roads, buildings, etc. Waiter is third because they offer their services to serve us a nice meal, even when they have to deal with rude customers sometimes. Model is last because they don't do much. They put on clothes and take pictures. Anyone else can do that.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you about your points on construction workers and waiters! Waiters get paid next to nothing and have to deal with rude customers all day. Construction workers have built the roads we drive on and every building we work, shop, or reside in.
DeleteConstruction worker, waitress, model, police officer. The construction workers are the most important, because who else is going to build the houses we live in and the buildings we work in? They are essential to our everyday lives. The waiters and waitresses have to deal with idiotic, demanding people all day long, while working at minimum wage and for very few tips, yet they still have to be nice and courteous with little motivation. Modelling is a difficult career to keep up. Police officers should be paid the least because they are typically paid with taxpayer dollars, and yet most of their time is wasted and that's more taxpayer dollars wasted, yet when there's an actual emergency, cops take forever to get there because they were more concerned with something like a peaceful protest that had a permit and was perfectly legal.

3. Food Service
4. Models
My reasonings for this order are very cliche, but the truth in my opinion. I ranked the occupations based on education and skill level. I will start will the bottom, models. Though modeling may take a high level of skill, it requires very little education and a model's contribution to society as a whole is insignificant. Third, I placed food service. Food service requires the skill of sociability, but it lacks in education and societal contribution. Though their service is enjoyed and much appreciated, we could indeed function without waiters/waitresses. Second on my list is construction workers. I believe that construction workers are often overlooked. Building anything takes a high level of skill and patience, it is not something that just anyone can do. Construction workers typically are not overly educated, but they make up for that in experience. In society they contribute an abundance. Without construction workers, we could not go into our warm houses at night and be comfortable knowing that they were built with high quality. First, I put Police Officers. I debated between construction workers and Police Officers for number one, but ultimately Police Officers won because of their daily risks and high level of education. Education was important in my decision because if someone is willing to pay high amounts and to attend school further than what is required, then they should be rewarded for their work. Police Officers work long hours, they work nights and they spend a great deal of time away from their families to protect us as citizens. That is very honorable and should not be taken lightly, they deserve to be paid well.
